just bought a new double din cage, and i've noticed that sum climate control units on ebay for the double din set up have little cut out's on the top ?
will i have to change my climate control unit ( single din )to suit the double din set up ?

You can change it but you dont have to, You can trim your exisiting unit to fit if you like.

If you do decide to replace it then make sure you get the correct part number to suit your car, they aren't all the same. Some look the right shape but wont function correctly in the wrong wehicle.

I've seen two other forum members cars with the existing one trimmed down and used and I couldn't tell , saves money to.

I am also thinking about putting in the rnse. I have a single din, I can get a double din cage easy enough. I was thinking about buying a doulbe din climate control but being swayed more to trim mine down. What is best to do this, is it easy? Don't want to ruin my current unit. Is the double din cage straight forward to install?

Big jase, you just going to trim yours, any links for the ones you've seen trimmed?

    Cheers

The climate control unit from a single din system needs to be trimmed down the sides abit for it to fit in the bottom of the double din cage rather than the middle of it, there fore it's too wide and needs trimmed. I haven't done this yet, so can't advise you any more im afraid.

Thats the right part number, been a few years since I fitted mine as I got rid of the car a while ago, but from memory I think you need to trim off a piece of plastic from the back of the centre console (as well as the climate panel)

Just trim the back of the console and keep offering it up until you work out what is catching and preventing it dropping back into place.

For the climate panel its the two vertical outer edges that need a few mm trimming off, you'll see it when you offer it up.

im looking at getting a 2nd climate control unit as i dont have the confidence to trim the one ive got . i've seen one on e-bay but it has the cage with it , and the part number of the cage is 8e0 858 0052 and the part number for the climate unit is 8e0 820 043 c. would these fit my car a4 saloon 56 plate?. the climate unit has got the heated seat switches would these work if i put in heated seat's ?.

I dont think 8e0 858 0052 is a valid part numbers, they are usually in the format like this 8e0 820 043 c. With the last character being a letter, this indicates the revision level of the part. They dont usually end with a number so I'd check that.

Yes, heated seats will work if you add heated seats, You also need to add all the wiring from the back of the switches to the underneath of the seats - this wont be present in your car.

Climate panels can be a nightmare, You need to check and double check with your dealer (or someone who has access to the parts catalogue, ETKA) that you have the right one. Eg, panels from a B6 A4 look the same but you'll have issues with the heated rear window playing up. You'll probably also need access to VCDS to code the panel into your car, you might get lucky and it'll work Ok though.

Trimming the panel is easy, and cheaper than replacing it though, I just used a small hand held wood planer. Doesnt take long as you only need a couple of mm from each side.
