Found this on the interweb - a modified boot that opens all the way up on the press of your remote button.

Does anybody know how this guy has done this? Presumably some different springs/struts?

I want this on my car!

I would think these are higher pressure gas struts on the tailgate.

Certainly on the saloon you can buy the gas struts to do this (and the boot hinges are different too - but I dont know if it is absolutely necessary to change them also)
If anybody has a parts listing to hand or online, the option code for boot opening is pr: 4E5. (option 4E0 is just boot release only - every A4 has that)

The saloon uses different hinges with springs attached, its not just the gas struts that are different.

I cant imagine its down to high pressure struts or you'd never get the boot closed! I've seen a few where people have fitted an engine valve spring around the shaft of the strut that gives it the upwards momentum when the boot is popped. IIRC it was only a factory option for auto boot on the saloon, so its a 'bodge' of sorts.
