Ive finaly got around to looking at a few issues that ive had wiht my 1997 passat b5.

    -Tempremental door lock
-Interior light doesnt come on when door is open
    -Boot light not working
    -No sound from alarm

At first i thought it was water damage to the CCM but that was all checked and is fine. Then i decided to replace the door lock module as these are a common fault and can cause the issues stated.I changed the lock module but it was still the same

After expressing my dissapointments with my dad(plenty of swearing) he said to check the wiring loom and at first glance it look fine but after bending the loom in several places we hit the jackopt.it seems that somewhere between the plug that connects into the door lock module and where it exits the rubber grommet that fits into the silver door back plate is where the dodgey connections ar.the interior light came on,the boot light came on and the door lock started working as it should and the alarm sounded.

I decided to cut the wires(all of them as i didnt know which controlled what) and take out a 10inch section and replace it.I used bullet connectors on 3 of the wires and soldered the others(it was almost pitch black and had to hurry) when the loom was hanging down everything worked perfectly but as soon as i put all the wiring back into its routing clips and rubber grommet its stopped working it was dark by this time and i had to put the car back together.

next morning after recovering from 7 hours tinkering the day before i decided to take the whole lot out and take of the bullet connectors and replace with propper solder joint and check the rest of the wires i had fixed.Again everything worked fine untill i put the wiring back in its propper place The only thing that does work out of my repairs is the interior light but the rest of the problem have returned.

ive checked my haynes manual wiring diagram and the only wire i can identify and know what it does is the brown+black one which controls the interior light. The other 7 wires i dont have a clue what they do but im assuming that at least of them controls the door lock module and the boot light(apartently its the same black+brown wire that controls the boot light)

does anybody know what the wires do that go into the plug that goes into the door lock module as i want to replace the onces that are causing the problems.

Its an 8 pin plug by the way

    thans for looking

Better to replace them all, any that aint broke now, will be
    hanging by a thread.

They break inside and you need X-Ray specs to see them.

yes i have looked into getting another complete loom but im having trouble locating one.

my local scrap yard does have 1 but they want silly money for it and the car its from has been sat outside for a while and its a mess and the wiring looks in a shocking state and i doubt it would even work.

i have emailed a few seller on ebay but they either want silly money or the wiring loom wont fit.

my car has electric windows and mirrors and remote central locking(when i get it working) so need the exact loom for my model of car.

There was a guy selling a loom from a 2002 passat but not sure if it will fit as that particular model has puddle lights and my car doesnt have them.
