auto gearbox fault

hi there have just brought a a4 1996 tdi auto 120k miles which has a slight problem with the box
What happens is when i start the car and select R the car dips down and begins to move fine,
when i select D the car does nothing for about 2-3 mins then dips down and begins to move,
if i rev the car hardish then it will find the gear in about 1 min when the car becomes warm there is not a problem would anyone have any ideas what could be wrong cheers

First thing I would check is the fluid level in the box.

Things might improve if you get the box
flushed and replace the filter.

yes was going to try that have just got a new filter now just got to get the oil to suit
