    Hi All,
Apologies if this is posted elsewhere but searched forum and could not find anything. My issue is with my brake light switch and instruction on how to properly install. The issue arose when I noticed my brake lights were intermittently staying on and the glow plug was flashing on the console. I decided to try changing the brake light switch as a resolution. The problem is I must be doing something wrong as I am now on my 3rd switch! From reading up on the net it seems like these switches are a once off deal and you need to buy a new one if you screw up the install
After first attempt had to push brake in more than usual to get lights to come on, second attempt, lights stayed on all the time regardless of brake peda position. As result of this fiddling around with the brake light switch my ESP, ABS and Glow plug lights are now ALL on !!
The following is the procedure I followed, if anyone can tell me where I’m going wrong I would greatly appreciate it, from what I gather it’s a pretty straight forward job so beginning to feel like a total klutz
    My car is a 2003 A4 B6 1.9 TDi
    • Remove old switch
    • Unlock new switch (they came already unlocked)
    • Push brake pedal to floor
    • Insert new switch at 45 degree angle
    • Pull brake out slowly all the way while holding switch firmly in place (switch clicks several times)
    • Rotate switch into position

Hi, thanks for your reply, the switch is the same as the akward (D type) one in this procedure for doing the install on a vw. This is the actual procedure i followed, only difference i noticed in the Audi is there are two similar switches to the top left hand side of the brake pedal, I had to remove the connector to figure out which one was for the brake lights, have no idea what the other one is for but they look the same.

Have literally just finished doing one.

So far as I can see there are two ways of doing it but the key point is not to turn the body of the switch (which also locks the plunger switch) with the pedal depressed...

    So either:

Ensure plunger is extended (you can check this by pushing it in & allowing spring to extend it again).
Leave pedal in "up" position - gently locate switch into keyed slot then turn to lock.

    or:

Ensure plunger is extended (you can check this by pushing it in & allowing spring to extend it again).
Depress brake pedal & hold down - gently locate switch into keyed slot then hold in place & gently release pedal. Only once pedal released turn to lock.

I performed this a couple of times without sucess (or damage which is possible if you do not move the plunger when it is locked) because the brake lights still did not work. However I eventually found I had simply not turned the switch body enough!

    Hope this helps

Hi All , just to get back on this, I removed the switch and tried the procedure all over again and this time it worked perfectly, I must not have been turning it properly into place, thank you all for your help !
