    Hi,

I have a 2004 avant and the rear drivers window won't go up. I have taken the door apart and removed the motor to see if it's the regulator but even when the motor is free it only goes down, not up which I assume is a swithcing problem somewhere(I have tried the rear window switch and the main window contrcoller swithc). Everything else in the car works fine, just this one window.

I have read somewhere that a unit under the passenger seat can get water ingress but the cars parked in the garage most of the time and for the past 2 years so can't see how it can be wet, especially when the carpet doesn't feel wet.

    Your ideas would be appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Colin

does it go up if you pull the glass up while using the switch at the same time? or is the switch dead as in nothing happens at all? It may be broken sliders, common on the front doors.

i don't think it will be the convenuence module under the seat as you will have many problems not just the window, but check for water under the battery tray just in case.

common causes of the window not winding up are the plastic sliders cracking (like my front passenger window), or a wire breaking in the rubber boot between the door and the hinge (like my offside rear window).

usually the broken sliders let it wind up a bit until it sticks, which makes it wind down a bit.

the broken wire usually seems to stop it working at all.

As Andy says, it doesn't sound like the ccm, but it's always a good idea to shine a torch down the side of the battery to see if there's any water down there.

I'll have a look for water when I get home.

I am confident the issue isn't related to the window mechanism, when I remove the motor from it's housing nothing happens when the switch is moved up but it does move down. it's an electrical issue somewhere.

Ok, as Nickpicks suggests, check wiring in the rubber between the door and the body, the rubber sleeve "should" pull off the car body toward the door allowing a look inside at the wiring. the multiplug should also disconnect at the body if needed

Check the signal on Pin 3 and 4 on the motor, one should be for up and one for down. Regards Peter

    Sorted it.

Turns out it was the connection on the switch on the rear door, I haven't a clue how it came loose but now it's secure and working.

    Thanks for the posts.

Sorry to jump on your thread but mine is also faulty. It goes half way up & jams. Seem to be going up at a slight angle & if you keep it straight, it's fine. Nickpicks says the sliders break, which sounds like my fault. Does anybody know if these can these be bought on their own, or do I need to buy a complete regulator?? Thanks

Hi Read quite a common problem with the slider breaking.

read this thread, there are many others but it will give an insite and may describe what problems you are having:

Basically if it is the slider you need, part no 4B0 837 463B (Ł2.20 + VAT) from an Audi Dealer
