A previous message(joneslt) of whinning turbo (130bhp TDI) on going up gears didn't give an outcome. I now notice mine is whinning (for the first time) and was wondering what to do. Consumption of fuel may be lower but that is all I have noticed.

Remove the output boost pipe and check the free play in the turbo shaft bearings. How many miles has it done. Rgeards Peter

its easier to get at if you remove the pipe going into the turbo from the air cleaner you wont see or feel anything from the output pipe from the turbo.............

I have this issue also but only under hard acceleration. The car has only done 36K what is the chance of the Turbo? I will have a look at the pipes when I get some time off work.
Just some added info I drive 12 Miles to work and then 12 Home.
    Any thoughts?
    Many thanks Steve.

I have my problem resolved. The flexi pipe near the engine block had come apart and was leaking thereby causing the turbo to whine as I moved up gears. I got a new flexi joint refitted , a welding job. (150sterling). All well now. I suggest you check that joint for leaks.
