    Morning All

I am planning a 2000 mile journery next year for our holidays and i'm looking to ensure that nothing goes wrong with the motor as i'll have my daughter and missus with me so could do without the hassle. I've got a 04 sport with 80,000miles and had no problems so far.

its had the following items done

    1. a service every 10,000 miles and i'll do one before we go.
    2. New pads and discs all round and still looking good.
    3. All the belts and water pump done in feb 08 but not the tensioner. looking to replace it all again in feb 11
    4. Both CV boots done in past 2 years.
    5. There is a small coolant loss over time so i am assuming the rabs leaking but i cant find any evidence of it. will probably get it replaced to be on the safe side.
    6. occasionall the trip computer fails but switching off an on again fixes it.
    7. never had a water leak inside the car
    8. Plenum plugs removed so not expecting water intake.
Is there anything i should check change before i go to be on the safe side?

    Graeme

brand new cars break down - just be a member of one of the breakdown services and stop all the knee jerking .

i have put close to 40k on the 109k on mine and yet to have any issues . but i know what you mean in thinking will it do 2k in a single journey .

I agree with the last, whilst it is unlikely that something will fail it is advisable to take out a European breakdown cover policy. I took my car to France last summer and the alternator clutch pulley failed on the journey there. Luckily I was able to complete the journey with no issues, this was the only part that has failed in the 64k miles covered since I bought the car.

I have a 2002 1.9 TDI with 181000 miles on clock. Every summer I drive to Spain and this summer I even went to Berlin. The only problem I faced was both break lights went off and car had ABS and ESP lights on. After replacing both light bulbs everything went back to normal. In general it is very reliable and I always felt safe and secure taking this car anywhere I want. Pleasure to drive and great handling. Still a Euro rescue cover provides an extra worry free holidays.
