Golf MkIV 1.9TDI 150ps, 130K miles: Odd starter issue

This evening when I went to start the car, the starter did nothing - I mean not even a click. But the battery is fine and this car has given no problems. Puzzled by this I rocked the car just in case it was a jammed starter but nothing. Then I checked that all the electrics were fine so ran the fan, turned the lights on and off. After doing this the car started and has done so again without any sign of a problem. This may have been a one off oddity, but anyone recognise this a sign that some component of the starter or related electrics is on the way out?
