Saw this in autotrader and it got me thinking, how hard do you have to work to get that sort of MPG? Most I've got from my tank is about 900 and that was trying hard to squeeze ever last ml out of the tank!

Averaging 58! Never above 2000rpm, no excessive braking, don't use cruise control, and give 100% concentration! I concluded that it wasn't worth it. For the extra money you may save, it's not worth the huge amount of effort it takes!

I have a 2010 model 2.0 140 TDI Bluemotion Technology model and the best I've ever averaged is 68mpg (MFD reading) on a drive from Sheffield to North London. That was nearly all motorway, cruise on as much as possible, never going over 70mph. A brim to brim showed an actual 66mpg, so not too bad. The official VW figure is 70.6mpg extra urban, so I would think this is a realistic figure to achieve.
In real world driving 55-60 mpg is relatively easy to get, although so is 45mpg if really pushing on and using all the available performance.
Just shows what's achieveable if you set your mind to drive carefully and economically. The 1.6 TDI Bluemotion version gives better official figures still, but obviously you're unlikely to get these figures all the time, unless you drive steadily on traffic free roads and aren't in a hurry.

Problem with a 1.6 is that you need to push harder to get the car to go. On a long drive it's probably better but in real life I couldn't see it being as practical.

I must say though the difference between my PD140 and CR110 is massive. I used to struggle for 45mpg in the PD. The 140k might have had an effect on this aswell though!

That's all I'll say to a 1500 miles per tank claim, it just isn't do able in real terms, and I suspect they rolled it down a hill with the engine off or on idle for 75% of the time.

So does the Bluemotion come with a 150L tank

Seriously, that's some impressive mileage no matter how they achieved it. I can only think they spent the whole time cruising at 56MPH on a clear motorway tickling the throttle up hills and coasting down hill. However they did it, 1,527 miles on one tank is really impressive - I'm pleased to get 800+ miles from one tank and they are near double that!

What do you average in your 110CR? I've just got 52mpg from my first tank so would be interested to know what to expect. That's on a 20 mile commute each way, country roads driving for economy. My 1.9TDI Octavia was doing 55mpg on the same commute so I guess that's about right.
