    Can anyone tell me the best value for money VCDS that actually works on my 2005 passat 140 bkp,and where to buy from.Any help greatfully received.

    The only one that works on your car is the genuine VCDS from ross-tech. You can buy it from gendan or ilexa in the uk as well as a few others. Cost is just over £300.
    Please don't be tempted by cheap Chines fake copies. These are cheaper but you will not get any help/support and they are illegal.
