hey guys, ive got a 1997 Golf Mk3 GL 1.6 , bought it a few months back and it came with a cheap CD player in it (cant even remember the name lol) and ive decided i want to change it for a better one.
when i pulled it out of my dash i had a look behind it, expecting to see loads of different coloured wires plugged into the back of it, but i never, i saw one big fat black one which had about half an inch stripped off it to expose the copper beneath.
the copper part is simply pushed into a 'hole' in the back of the CD player and thats it, works fine there isnt even any other holes to plug aux cables or anything else into either. . . .the new cd player i want, the back of it has spaces for loads of individual wires (no space for my big one) so how do i fit it? i guess i need some kind of wiring harness but i havent a clue which one to get, im totally new to all this lol cheers for ur help folks!!

If you cant find an adaptor, i have a pin out sheet for the golf wiring harness on my pc at home, you can always terminal block them together with labels, which is what I had to do in the end.

Takes a while to make sure the connections are married up correctly, but it makes future installs less of a headache for me. But im quite confident with wiring, I wouldnt recommend it unless you know what you are doing.

Often the 12V permanent and 12V ignition wires on the mk3 are reversed for most of the aftermarket stereos, so if you do get a new one, this could be a problem before you bin it for not remembering your settings

The copper part might be a broken aerial connection which someone has bodged in :P Hard to tell from your description!
