    Hi Guys,

I have an 04 1.6 FSI SE Golf (Petrol).

Just a quickie about the clutch - it has a really high biting point. It doesn't appear to be slipping but would just like some advise if you guys think it could be on its last legs yet or not?

If the clutch is released, it only takes a slight press (maybe half an inch) and the revs drop down....

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

hi mate mine is just below halfway although mine is a diesel i think yours should be about the same, it could be the pressure plate is a little weak, how many miles has it done? has it got worse over time or over the last few days? if it was me id carry on till it starts to slip and then replace it along with DMF (silly not to as the box will be out) and the slave cylinder,

I don't think it's got any worse but I am planning a trip to Applecross which includes the Pass of the Cattle road (search it on YouTube) - which I think is a bit of a clutch killer.

Due to work I can't get it into my local dealer to have a look at.

    Cheers

There are no local indy's really around here - all chains like crap-fit and Farmer Autocare. My local VW guys are acxtually really good if a little pricey.

    hi
diesel clutches seem to need changing from around 90k onwards. I camped at applecross for a wet week once, 30 years plus ago. Beware the midge, huge deer would graze around the camp site in the early morning. My vauxhall viva managed that pass ok. Clutch changing on my diesel golf was straightforward, with no transmission oil loss.
