Got an 05 B7 blb with a rattle. What can be done to check if its the bottom pulley, dual mass clutch or THE OIL PUMP???????????????? I have been told these are the common faults. Only had the car for 2 months and bricking it.

Could be something innocuous, lets hope so.

Unfortunately the BLB engine has a chequered history of balancer shaft related problems. Its not actually the balancer shaft itself, but rather the way Audi decided to drive it from the engine. By a chain and sprocket set-up, which seems to wear rather quicker than ideal.
The ugly scenario with this is that you cannot buy a critical part of this sprocket setup with out buying the whole balancer shaft module and idle gear as it has now changed to (a more sturdy) spur gear setup. Your looking at around £800 in parts alone for this (add labour charges)
The oil pump is driven off this balancer unit. If there is any suspicion of the rattle coming from the bottom end of the engine, get it checked out sooner rather than later, as replacement engines aren't cheap either.

A slightly cheaper noise could be your air-con pump, as they can get noisy on some A4s. You can still reckon on £400 for a replacement pump from a specialist. (Audi will sell you one for £600).

Dual M*** Flywheels have been covered elsewhere in this forum, Do a search, as I remember there is some useful self diagnosis info in that post. (I've had a quick look myself, and cannot find it at this moment) It might have been in the B6 model A4 or even the A6 section.

    Hope its not too serious.

Thanks for that, will look out as you say for how to diagnose the clutch and have a good listen to the noise. Gonna have to bite the bullet and get it looked at. Wish me luck and thanks again.
