I know this has been done to death but..........

System was working fine until I had 4 new tyres fitted. When I collected the car I got the dashboard warning lights along with message 'parking brake fault' and audible alarms when driving plus a flashing light on the epb switch.
The epb will not activate and there is no sound coming from the motors.
What i've done so far to try and fix it:-

    1. Carried out various resets as recommended on the forum.
    2. Changed epb switch.
    3. Fitted new car battery as I understand system is sensitive to low battery volts (it was over 6 years old and was due for replacement).
    4. Checked brake fluid level (all OK).
    5. Took the car to an independant garage for diagnostic check. Don't have full details of what was found but it was something to do with motor voltage? I also observed the version of software that was being used was 2010 ! Technician suggested it appears to be something common to both caliper motors and it was unlikely that both motors would fail simultaneously and he would need to trace through the system using a wiring diagram.

Does anyone have any further ideas or suggestions before I have to admit defeat and take it to the garage??

As tyre fitter has had wheels off, suggest you check wiring to EPB unit both sides. Wheel removal needed again though
Get yourself a VCDS Autoscan, post here so techies can see what's going on and what's been reported? Or ask independent garage for a printout from their scanner that they used?

Thanks for the advice Richard, I suppose it's the logical thing to do. Is the wiring to the epb motors easily accessible with the wheel removed?

Connector is at the rear of EPB motor, good pix and good info here but don't assume you've got duff motors yet

    Hi Richard,

For some reason my previous reply didn't get through.
Just to let you know the outcome :-

Took the car to an independant VAG garage. This turned out to be a long drawn out saga with the car being in the garage for 6 days.
Both caliper motors replaced (VW part No 3CO998281B)
Control module for parking brake changed (VW part No 3CO907801G), which involved removal of front seats and centre console.
New set of rear brake pads (although the ones on had a decent amount of material left on them).
Difficulty in resetting the various fault codes so car had to be taken to a main dealer to have this done.

    Total cost = £1438

In hindsight it may have been more cost effective to go to a main dealer for this work as it seems very complicated?
