A4 cabin Heating/Cooling problems

I am looking for some help with my 2002 Audi A4 1.9 Turbo Diesel (standard UK right hand drive).
A few months ago the heater was only blowing very cold air out of the passenger side vents (driver side was fine), irrespective of whether the aircon was switched on or off. I found a post suggesting that a few taps on one of the dampers might free them, so I tried it and it seemed to work.
What I have noticed now is that the air con doesn't seem to work anymore and neither do the temperature controls, all I seem to get out of the system is slightly warm air. What I am after is some troubleshooting/diagnostic tips, for example things like testing voltages at certain points if the aircon is switched on, etc and I would also like to know if there is any way of doing a full reset on the aircon management system?
Any help gratefully accepted.

Hold down the recirculating button and push either fan speed up or temp up,can't remember which one.Ity should go into diagnostic mode.Then speed up and down to relevent number then recirculate again and there are the readings and or codes.If you want to find out more you could google 'climatronic codes audi etc etc'
