My 1999 A4 B5 1.8 N/A AEB has been having a lot of problems recently with its engine.

It suffered a lot of idleing problems which was diagnosed by audi as a faulty throttle body or more specifically the idle control valve on it.

So i replaced the throttle body which fixed it all.

However today its been getting noiser and noisier from the drive chain tensioner and the idle problems are back intermittantly, could this be the failing of the tensioner or am i looking at other problems? the ecu just showed an altitude error which never has re-occured? any ideas?

May be an oil level/ pressure problem. Does it happen at cold starts, or when warm when idling?

have you had the oil and filter changed recently? when the engine is cold the oil is a bit thicker, but when the engine warms up and the oil gets thinner thats when you can have problems if the engine hasnt had and oil change for a while
