Stereo draining battery Audi A4 1.9 Tdi 2002

Hi, I am looking for some advice, I have an Audi A4 1.9 Tdi (2002), a couple of weeks ago I went to turn up the volume on my stereo (this is the standard head unit that came with the vehicle) and the stereo died, the following day my battery had gone flat, I charged the battery and the charge held, I tested the charging system and it is fine, I checked for a drain on the battery and found one, upon further investigation I found that the stereo was the cause of the drain, I have pulled the fuse and all has been fine since although I have no music.

Is this a simple case of having to replace the head unit or does this problem run deeper? any advice would be greatly appreciated!
