    Hi guys,

I'm new to this site, and have posted a thread in the A6 section as I was originally looking for a good spec'd A6 3.0tdi Q s line fully loaded. After much searching and pulling hair out to find a good spec one, I just couldnt for my budget. So, I looked at the A8 instead...

Im glad I did! Yesterday I bought a 2004 A8 3.0 tdi. The fella on the phone said it was in 'showroom' condition, and I'm always very dubious when people say this. I went to West London to check it out. No sh*t, this guy was not joking. Its unmarked, the alloys/tyres are perfect as is everything else.

Spec is amazing, I'm still absolutely blown away by it, can't stop going out and looking at it and beleiving I found one so bloody good!

I recently sold an E320 CDi and this thing is such a massive step up!

I can honestly say that this is the first car I have had to look at the bloody instruction manual for too! and still there is loads to work out. I just set my fingerprint etc up for me, the keyless entry and biometrics are fantastic.

Im a proper happy chappy now! (cant you tell lol).

    I'll post a piccy soon...

Just been playing... Gutted the changer won't play MP3 discs, just says CD ROM which is blank out. Strange on such an upmarket cat. Also the CD sound is harsh and a bit crackly but that might just be some setting i'll have a further play in abit (running out of time as off to work ) Also, I can't find how to get the mirrors to retract, setting is in the middle.. oh well, further playing required

    *edit*

The CD I was listening too was crap, the sound is ok. Car doesnt seem to have retracting mirrors either but the biggest gutter is the non-mp3 playback...

Mine retarcts the mirrors by turning the adjuster knob all the way down, so the mark is not up but down with the ignition switch on . If it works for you you will understand what I mean. Dont know about the mp3 as I dont play them...have you the surround sound? If you have I am suprised you have not adjusted it in the sound set up section on MMI..Mine is quiet good..

With respect, you're maybe forgetting that this car is over six years old... mp3 CDs weren't widely used then, and are still not commercially available even now.

I, too, have a 2004 A8, and am stunned that the Audi satnav is so much better than we had on our Touareg (2007 model) and is as fast as a new, top model TomTom. Add in items like ACC, tyre pressure sensors and all the many other gadgets and gizmos, and be amazed that all this was developed and working so long ago...

In the case of my car, be equally amazed that somebody thought that bronze-coloured seat belts and tan upholstery looked good...

Mp3 has been big business even 6 years ago though, and my older e320 had the factory capability to playback mp3 disks... I think a visit from tcl satnav is on the cards for ami/changer

I've still not tried MP3 CD's in my 2006 model....but another wee tip is if you are reversing and move the mirror switch to passenger side the passenger side mirror will automatically tip down for you to help prevent wheel kerbing....and will return to normal position when you return the mirror switch to the centre. Previous posting about storing mirrors 'up' is correct that you need ignition on before changing the position and also if you get in the car with mirrors up you need to start the car first (or ignition on) before returning mirror switch to the central position before the mirrors come down again - this caught me out once and had to pull over quickly to sort them!

Re: MP3 - You could always retrofit iPod capability. I did this and have never looked back.

Audi dealers are renowned for being unhelpful with this. I used Craig Barnes and can highly recommend him. He's well known in the UK forums. Just google 'craigyb'

i had ami fitted to my a8 by my local audi dealer and they dropped price to £400 when it had been £600 and they were more than helpful as it knocked out my bluetooth after fitting and they took car back and sorted it out with no fuss, i see your in suffolk so take a trip to ipswich audi but make sure you have the high version of mmi as you cant retro fit the ami otherwise.
