    Hey,

I have within MMI an option for Supplementary heater (which is set to Auto) other option is 'off'. I note the heater is much quicker i this car than my previous B8 SE (which did not have the supplementary heater fitted)

Checked the manual, it has a section on supplementary heater but does not discuss how it operates or provide any real detail. There is a para on Auxiliary heater which is more clearly explained. Does anyone know how the supplementary heater works?

    Thanks

I wondered this and I think I can recall that there is an electrical heating element that does the initial warming up stuff. I would have loved the auxilary heating thingie as I love a toasty warm car in the winter

yeah, i think its electrical, the driver has no control over it - it just provides a little warmth while the engine coolant warms up.

Its a shame we cant have the proper Aux heater though - that'd be great in winter. Just imagine going out to a toasty warm car with all the windows already cleared!

I think so, you never know about it though, it just tries to provide a little warmth on cold starts, there is no control nor indication to the driver though.

You can retro fit "standheizung" (a AUDI option outside the UK), but the firm WEBASTO do a system as well. Why bother? Cause it pre-heats your car in the winter by timer (programmable on the MMI) or by remote and can circulate air in the summer to keep the interior cool.

Hi Dunk, I'm really interested in the "standheizung" option, but my local dealer has never heard of it. Do you have a rough idea of how much such an option would cost (parts & labour), please?

Is there anyone out there who has fitted it on his car?

    Many thanks.

I had a Webasto heater fitted on my car tree weeks ago (In Denmark, but Webasto is on the UK marked as well) and it is fantastic!

I chose their T100 remote which enables you to turn on the heater from inside your house or to program at what time you wish the car should be preheated and ready for departure

Hi Perfect_g, first of all thank you very much for your reply. I had already contacted Webasto UK a few days ago and hopefully they should come back to me with some more information. May I ask you which Audi A4 you are driving and how much you spent for the installation? Did you get it done by an Audi dealer or an independent specialist? From what I understand, installing a Webasto parking heater on a diesel car such as mine should be far cheaper since it comes with an auxiliary hearer already.
    Cheers

Hi Fab, I am driving a A4 3.0 Tdi. I had the installation done at an independent specialist in Denmark. My car has the supplementary heater but for some reason it was not cheaper because they had to install a Webasto parking heater anyway - do not know the technical reasons, but it was the same answer from every dealer I contacted..

Anyway I care a lot for my engine and chose to have the installation performed anyway - mainly for the sake of the engine not doing any cold starts and running cold for a long time through town on my way home from work....but since I got it installed I have to say that the feeling of a warm car in the morning is just sooo nice......

I paid about 2.200 EUR for the lot including the T100 remote etc. I could have had the call option for the same price (you text or call the car and the heater starts), but chose to have the advanced options of the T100 instead.
