    Hello all,

I recently put a post on saying my turbo sounded a bit strange. I have a 2003 A4 1.8T with 87k on the clock.

I was driving it down the M1 on Friday when the oil warning light came on and then before I could pull over, there was a huge plume of white smoke pouring out of both exhausts.

I headed straight to the hard shoulder and switched the engine off. The water temp stayed bang on 90 degrees so I am inclined to think that this wasnt the head gaskett and that the turbo has blown. It was picked up by the recovery truck and taken to a garage where I am waiting for them to give me the bad news......

So, does anyone have any idea if this is the turbo and costs involved in replacing it now?

It was serviced by audi only a couple of months ago and given the usual oil change etc.

All I am seeing is a huge bill coming my way so any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

the turbo is only the secondary concern.
you need to know why the oil light came on before anything else is done!
i don't think the garage would fit a new turbo without investigating why the original failed,
    i should hope not anyway,

Thanks guys for the quick responses. How do I find out my engine code? £100 sounds like a real bargain!!

Do you think that the turbo could have been on its way out and caused the oil light to come on first before completely blowing?

Sudden catastrophic turbo bearing failure allows oil to free flow into exhaust so pressure drops violently causing oil light trigger. At a guess.
Code should be on engine or on sticker in handbook. Good luck.

Wow, sorry I can't offer any advice but just wanted to say good luck and I hope it is all simple mechanics and nothing too major.

    Best wishes

Well, thanks everyone for your advice. It is very much appreciated.

Quick update..... the garage have called saying it will need a new turbo. I have been quoted £750 plus VAT for a reconditioned one which I dont think is too bad. This includes oil and filter too. I thought it would cost a lot more than this and need maybe more parts replacing?
