can someone please help me asap

hi iam not very mechanically minded and need some urget help on my 54 plate gt tdi as i have an mot due in 2 weeks

firstly the headlamps(dipped) have suddenly started to not switch on properly and lower my vision at night, there are no warning messages on the dash and i have replaced the bulbs which were not even damaged

position 2 and 3 on the light switch are exactly the same brightness

im quite confused with this as its only happened overnight

secondly

my bonnet does not seem to close properly now either
it just pops back up evrytime like its not hitting the catch properly
i have to stand there slamming it up and down about 30 times hoping for that lucky slam that it does finally close which is very embarrasing and must be bad for the car

i dont wanna take it into a garage to be charged rediculous price for something so petty so any advice would be appreciated

im gonna soak the catch in wd40 tomorrow and just wiggle it about to see if it helps at all tho

I have never experienced the problem you are having with the lights; it may be a problem with the central electrics computer so you will need to enlist the help of someone with a diagnostic system.

The bonnet catch issue is a common Golf 5 issue and is due to rust in the bonnet catch, which I find needs replacing when this happens. Also the bonnet safety catch seizes up.

Have you recently had anything done to the car? Electronically?
I have seen that sometimes fitters / engineers can pick up from the ignition feed on the back of the light switch which in return causes issues when the lights are used? Just a thought?
Another question is, Do your lights get brighter when running above engine idling? bight then dim?
there are several possibilities.... did you get to the bottom of this?
