    Hi all,

I have a mark 3 (1994) golf 1.8i. Every 10-20 miles the engine will "cut out" and i will be left without drive or power steering (quite bad if I'm on a dual carriageway). This initially happened when pulling away from junctions or roundabouts, but now is happening when making steady progress at any speed. The engine then doesn't start and the oil light flashes. If I leave it about 5-10 mins the engine starts and I can carry on as if nothing happened (except for some slight juddering as i pull away in 1st).

The AA don't know whats wrong and I was wondering if anybody else has had similar problems.

    Thanks

Have you ever replaced the fuel filter? I remember a friend having a problem with a MK1 that used to cut out. The problem was a lot of crap in the tank and it used to block the pick up.

Do you have oil in it, If your light is coming on. Also my girlfriends car was cutting out like that and she had very little oil in it. So did an oil and filter change and it was ok after that.

    Hi,

I have checked the oil and it is well within the boundary. I will try changing the fuel filter and see what happens. I'll let you know!

    Hi guys,

Tried changing the fuel filter to no effect. It still happens at around 10-20 miles. Any other ideas??

I seem to remember hall senders on Golfs can be a problem.
    Here: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ht=HALL+SENDER

    And here: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ght=HALL+SENDE
    Are the symptons the same?
It could also be the coil.
