I have just picked up a mk3 golf as a run about, everything was ok when test driving but on longer runs (20mins or more) the throttle goes funny.

When you have your foot on the pedal and push down the rev/power goes fine until a certain point where the throttle drops. You then have to take your foot off the pedal and push down again but only about half an inch. Any more and you'll lose throttle again. but after a few mins like this, it goes away and back to normal again.

Its happened so far in 1st, 2nd and 5th and always comes back.

    Shes a 96 mk3 5door 19td.

    Thanks all

Throttle issues that change on an AAZ would be very odd as it is cable operated. PM me the reg number.

cant mind the bloody plate only had her less than a week but will drop u a Pm about 6ish.

its weird as its only happening randomly and always comes back again.

When you press the throttle past a certain point, she slows, so ull have to come back off the throttle and edge it in until she takes it again. If you pass this little point she slows again.

Weird as hell but she still runs fine when you hold the throttle at that point.

    Cheers Crasher

So the actual feel of the pedal doesn’t change but its response does. That sounds like fuel starvation so the first thing I would do is to change the fuel filter.

It is a 96 GL TDI with a 1Z engine so it is a 90PS TDI, not a 75PS TD Umwelt diesel therefore it has a fly by wire throttle, get it fault code read.
