Oh, god. Just a small change in temperature and humidity last week and I found my car suffering from that familiar MK6 seasonal syndrome - condensation on the inside of the windscreen.
My nightime drive to see my mates for a Thursday evening drink required the Aircon to be on both there and back as all the interior window surfaces tended to mist up.
Just what is wrong with these cars that seem so prone to this 'disease'? The car, like most other cars on our roads had been standing outside in the rain we had last week.
Obviously the rain water runs downs the windows and into the doors as can be seen from the cascade of water that pours out when you open the doors and allows the rain water to empty from the holding tank, that is the bottom of our doors. What a grim design flaw this is.

it's not specific to the mk6 golf?

pretty much every car with DG windscreens and climate control suffers from it - just use the aircon?

When it is a light mist or film I agree that the aircon can be the answer but the fact is that many people here and on other forums have similarly complained and the windscreen can be so wet that it needs to be wiped with something very absorbent before aircon can keep it a bay.

What is a DG windscreen? Double glazed or what - sorry to be so naive.

Change your glass cleaner - years ago i tried that Rain-X anti mist on the inside of the windscreen and then spent the next 3 weeks with more condensation than ever !

I use Autoglym glass cleaner and find its very good at keeping condensation at bay (whereas Autoglyms Fast Glass is nowhere near as good).

I don't use glass cleaners on the inside windows. Never had and don't intend to. I use a damp good quality Pittard leather and then dry the window with a duster kept for glass and glass only. To my mind glass cleaners are a quick fix but usually leave 'something' behind which then goes murky over the ensuing weeks.
I haven't had this problem (so badly) in other car makes, to be honest.

I've never been in any car that doesn't steam up in weather like we are getting now when fully loaded, or with even just me. I really think your complaining about something that just naturally happens.

If the water layer is particularly heavy then it takes a considerable time for it to clear even with aircon turned on - you need some dry warmth before it is banished.

Yes over the last month my windscreen misted up while I was driving and as you say the AC removes it. I cleaned the windows and it hasn't happened since.

well with a bit of luck finding the Autoglym cleaner may have done more than just get the streaks off the screen. sincerely hope so because in almost 40 years of motoring my current golf is without any doubt the worst car I've ever had for condensation.

it hasn't been an issue since last winter but I am really not looking forward to the colder weather
