Just been towed back to my house after my 05 Passat 2.0tdi Estate stalled and wouldn't start. Not mechanically minded, dont know where to start. It will tick over but wont start at all. Nothing on the dash at moment but there was a message saying Fault/Garage or something like that. The car has 101000 miles on it. Any ideas?

You'll need to take it to a garage and get a fully diagnostic.

sounds like it could be the ever popular injector failure, or the injector loom, take a seat if you get a quote from a main dealer, if it is the injector i would fix it and sell it before the others go.
hope i m wrong and its just something simple and cheap

Try a maf before you spend out on injectors.

    MY guess.
004160 - Supply voltage A for injectors: Circuit Malfunction
    P1040 - 006 - Short to Plus - Intermittent
008518 - Supply voltage for Fuel Injector Group A: Open Circuit
    P2146 - 009 - Open or Short to Ground

These are the standard codes for a failed Siemens piezo injector.
    Hope I am wrong.

iirc it is two in particular that fail.

I'm suggesting the maf because a friend had the same thing happen to his Touran last week, turned out to be a maf, a sensor in the dsg and a fuel sensor, not sure which fuel sensor as he paid £175 per sensor, and to my knowledge if it's a fuel temp one these are £25 ish, car now runs lovely according to him.

As far as I know, there is no reason for a second injector failing just because one has already failed. When you consider the number of high mileage 2.0 diesel engines in VW, Audi & Skoda cars, I doubt the injectors are that prone to failure. But who is going to come on to a forum to tell us their injectors haven't failed. The main problem with VAG is the ecu cutting the engine, instead of letting it go to 3 cylinders. At least with 3 cylinders you could limp home or to a garage.
