My missus has got a mk5 58 plate Golf gt sport. SHe has decided that she wants the ipod kit fitting but upon doing a bit of research it seems that the centre console which does have the armrest is from a mk6.

All the pics i can find of the one in the centre console for a mk5 show adin size pocket for the ipod dock or cd player to fit into and another smaller pocket next to it.

The one on hers is a large single l shaped pocket with a couple of small blanks inside it which i believe are where the adaptors for aux in and ipod connection.

Can anyone tell me what type of equipment i will need to fit this and weather the lead to fit to the head unit will be installed already?

This is what hers looks like.

    Thanks Mike.

Do they do one for the later style console as the cradles i have seen on ebay will not fit her one? Those are rectangular in shape and her console has a larger orifice than the early mk5's. The pics i have seen on google just show a lead poking out ofa hole for the one in hers.

IMHO I wouldnt bother with the VW kit, I would find a XCarlink on ebay, or www.xcarlink.co.uk - this unit will be cheaper and works exactly the same - you can stash the IPOD in the glovebox, I found xcarlink with my RCD300 better because:

    - It still supports playlists 1-5 via the RCD 300 (like the vw kit)

    - it has a 'manual mode' (disk 1 button) where it's possible (for the passenger) to use the ipod controls to find stuff, or if you have an IPHONE it will allow you to use Spotify/LastFM etc (the VW kit will not work properly with 3rd party music apps on an iphone)

    - Also has a 3.5" line-in as well for other music players

    - Also the MK V armrest kit doesnt accept (or charge) iphone 3G, 3GS or 4.

I have both the VW factory kit and the XCarlink (the Xcarlink has a passthruogh that lets you do this), and it works great - would not have bothered with the vw kit had I known.

Its also easier to fit as you just get the head unit out and plug it in, then stash the box down the side of the passenger footwell under the dash.

    HTH

    Mart.
