    Hello,

I have tried searching but as you can imagine there is a lot to go through on this subject!

I have an 05 A4 2.0T SLine with 235/45/18's. Two of the tyres are Conti Sport Contact3 and the other two are Dunlop Sport SP Max.

I have nothing against either of these two tyres, but I am open to suggestions.

My boy racer 'drive it like its stolen' days are long gone, but I still enjoy a blast every now and then so I would probably lean more towards a quieter tyre rather than one that gives ultimate grip.

    So, recommendations please !

    Thanks
    James

Are you sure you are on 235/45/18s mine are 235/40/18
as for tyres stick with the Conti Sport Contact3 mine handles like its on rails,
you rearly have to be pushing very hard to unstick these.

    I have tried the following:

Michellin PS2 - Excellent but very expensive
Bridgestone potenza RE050A - Excellent in wet and dry
Continental CSC3 - Excellent grip but wear very quickly
Goodyear eagle F1A - Excellent in wet and dry and best priced of the lot

Out of the 4 mentioned they were pretty much all the same in terms of performance and grip, but the Eagle F1A were cheapest to buy around £135 Fitted and so far seem to be lasting the longest down to 6mm after 11K.

i have conti sport 3's on mine, do handle well but on the quatro modles from reading on here seem to give the worst quattro 'pull', if yours is 2wd then no issue there.

they do seem to be wareing ok but ive had michliens before which wore quick i thought.

Had bridgestones and althought the grip was fien they did tend to ware strange.

bang for buck i would agree the goodyears seem a nice buy they will be my choice when the contis are worn out as there a bit too steep for me.

Many thanks chaps, I appreciate the replies.

Goodyear - never gave them a thought and yet I've always had good experiences with Goodyear tyres in the past on a wide variety of cars....

Mines a front wheel drive so quattro pull is not an issue thankfully!

They will need doing soon, but they are not an urgent requirement so I've got a bit of time to shop around.

    Cheers!

On a quattro and using full lock on the steering the rear wheels feel like they're "pushing" the fronts. As a result the fronts seem to slip sideways and you can feel the rubber moving across the road.

Certain tyres appear to make it more pronounced and it also seems to be more noticeable when tyres wear down, presumably due to reduced grip and the fronts more prone to sliding.

Best way of describing is that you feel like the front wheels are "grinding" across the surface.
I've felt it a couple of times but it's only at low speeds so typically it's in a car park or manouvering in the driveway.
