Apparently, some V6 TDIs are limited to 2500rpm in neutral.

I've heard of two examples so far, an A5 3.0TDI "auto" (MYreg unknown) and an A6 2.7TDI Avant multitronic, MY09reg.

Does anyone know whether this is a standard factory setup? If so, which models and MYreg's are covered?

If not factory set, then presumably it's been done somehow via aftermarket software, such as VCDS.
If so, exactly how is this done and again on which models and MYreg's is this possible?

Perhaps it's just the multitronics, ie non-quattro FWDs?

    Over to The Collective.

Scott K - I know little about the BiTDIs, is yours a V6 Quattro? Presumably, unchipped?

    royclark - "Factory set" -- that's interesting.

There must be a common denominator, I hope it can be found...

press and hold the esp button to turn off both esp and asr. now you can rev it all the way. you cant rev above 2500 to save you trashing the tramsmission by revving it flat out then slipping it into gear for a fast start.
Audi 80 tdi avant with 360,000 miles...

Yes, all the 3.0 are V6 and all the higher powered cars are quattros on the C7. Mine is standard as well-still under warranty! I only found out about it when someone mentioned it on the forum, so tried it a couple of weeks ago.

Scott K - great, so now we know it's not just multitronics.

I wonder if it's related to vintage? For example MY09 V6 TDIs onwards?

    My MY55 definitely isn't restricted ...

So, it would not appear to be a Euro V compliance.

We'll probably never know why some do and some don't.
