    Hi,

I've been a member of seatcupra.net for a while and thought i'd pop over here as I'm after a new car to replace my '06 1.4 Ibiza Sport.

I really need a bigger car as i have a Family with 2 kids and a drum kit to occassionally move about. also Holidays in the UK have become a VERY tight squeeze!

I really want a diesel as they have the low down power and torque (and can be remapped by the justvwaudi garage up the road!)

I have test drove a Fabia vRS and I loved it! but of course its the same size as my ibiza so ive been looking at the Octavia or the Bora (1.9 TDI PD 130's) as i should be able to get an '04 (05 would be nice!) with reasonable mileage for my price range £6-7k. needs to be 5 dr if its a smaller hatch ie Golf?

If anyone has any comments or suggestion for my car search they would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in Advance

    Baz

    Hi, welcome to the forum.

I would say the Octavia would be your best bet, as the boot is large wiht a big opening. The bora boot is big but being a saloon the boot opening is small

A passat estate would be your best bet for a drum kit

Hi Rob, Thanks for the reply.

I have been leaning towards the Octavia for that very reason. A guy at work has a 407 saloon and its a pain trying to get stuff to fit in the boot!

A Passat estate would be WAY too large for me to park! (previous and current cars being a 206 and an Ibiza) I want a bigger car but I'll try to make the change in small incriments! The drumkit has always been split between band members anyway so not a big prob.

I wouldn't write the passat off, Its suprising how you get use to the size and it not that much bigger than an octavia, I wouls say that an estate is easier to judge the back end anyway, I have driven a new VRS, and a passat estate and can reliably comment on this.

Yeah, I suppose you can actually see where the back of your car is with an estate as with a saloon (or a saloon style hatchback in the Octavia's case) you have the boot to guess about.

I have an 03 Bora 130 PD. I drine the 140 2.0 Skoda Octavia in work. My preference is the VW 130 PD engine. Just a great car!!!

The Passat estate believe it or not is actually shorter than the saloon !

The Passat saloon is the same as the Octy saloon.

Also the estate rear end is easy to park as where the window is is literally almost the end of the car.

    UPDATE:

I eventually went for an 04 Bora SE in Graphite Blue but with the PD100 engine mostly because i found one at the right price with black heated leather and the winter pack. I'm well pleased with the car (apart from the scrape on the rear door that i managed to do after 2 weeks of ownership!!)

Just been camping and managed to fit everything in the boot - massive tent, 5 bags, pushchair, 2 double airbeds and the rest of it! and still got up to 120mph on the M1 (just needed to have a quick go! don't shout!)

The 100bhp is still a good step up from my 70bhp ibiza and there is always the remap route if i have any money after repairing my door!
