I booked my car in for replacement tyres last week for today however this morning VW dealer informs me that the Conti Sportcontact 2 XL were on back order and will not be available for some time. He said that Conti UK had sent the next best thing Hankook Ventus V12 Evo has anyone had any experience with these tyres? I have looked at few reviews and they seem ok

Don't know what your dealer is talking about Conti sending Hankooks.

Barum are Conti's second tyre so why would they send another tyre from another manufacturer?

I put the Barums on as replacements for Dunlops and they are fine in the dry and just a little more slippy in the wet. They were £30 a corner cheaper than the Dunlops and so far wearing very well.

I've used Ventus Primes before and they were good tyres.

Barums are a good budget tyre, but they are a budget tyre.

Kleibers are a very good mid ranger, these are made by Michelin I think as their second string tyre.

Barums though aren't a Continental in any shape or form regarding wear and handling.

I'm laughing at getting replacement tyres at the dealer!

I tried a set of vredesteen tyres and I personally think there fantastic. They hold really well in the dry and even better in the wet. My standard rims have Conti on them and there great too but not worth the money.

On my 07 plate Passat Estate 2.0 TDI Sport 140 DSG, I am using Hankook K110 Ventus 235/25R/17 97W Extra Load on the front and have been well impressed with the wet / dry grip and comfort of ride. It`s too early for me to comment on tread life, but at present all looks good.

Had mine on now for 2 months plus and I'm quite impressed. Not as surefooted as the conti's but a good tyre for the money. I will buy them again when I need to change them

a garage i worked at afew years ago use to fit Kleibers and IMHO they are a great tyre and as you said are michelins only with a different name on the side wall, it was michelins way of getting a slice of the budget buyer market
