Hi there, ive recently bought a 2001 Dolphin Grey A3 TDi, and looking to get an HID kit for it, ive bought the kits for previous cars ive owned (old cars), but not sure how it works or best kit to go for, for the A3.

Any help is much appreciated, and recommendations?

I basically want a kit that does both low and high beam ideally, or is it best to get just low beam and change the bulbs of high beam as already fairly bright ?

    Thanks, Luke

    Hi Luke,
The A3 has projector lens on the low beam making it a great candidate for a HID Xenon Upgrade kit. some do upgrade their high beams too but because HIDs take a short while to ignite you most likely will loose the ability to flash your headlights. For low beam you will need a H7 kit (please check your user manual to confirm bulb size) and, as Im sure you are aware, you will have choice of color temperature. I would recommend no less than 4300k and no more than 6000k. It is important you invest in a Kit with error canceling ballasts or Digital ballast. A good quality of digital ballast avoid bulb warning errors on your dash. HIDorigins Blesk kit is 100% compatible with your A3 sensitive electronics. The quality of light will also depend on your bulbs as well as their color temp. Blesk bulb stats are impressive, they match Philips colour quality and are rated at 2500hrs however the HIDorigin does offer an Philips bulb upgrade as an option on the Blesk kit too. Another consideration is sidelight upgrades and numberplate LED upgrades to match your Xenons. Again many buy cheap LEDs in the hope of saving money but end up with hassle and expense. HIDorigins error free LEDs are 100% compatible on the Audi A3 and amazing value for money. Please do consider them too. I hope this info helps and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. cheers vin

Hi thanks for the info guys, i'd much prefer to get a decent kit rather than have further issue's.

Ive currently got 6000k on my Civic and had 6000k on my previous golf, so ill probably stick with the 6k, or would anyone recommend the 4300k (isnt that what production cars with HID's are fitted with ?

hi luke, 4300k is what is factory fitted. They are generally Philips but some are Osram. either way they tend to color shift to about 5000k over time. 4300k is the brightest color temp. on philips bulbs 6000k is said to be 25lm dimmer.. I think the difference is noticable but 6ks are still really bright. The higher you go , the bluer you go and the dimmer you get. I dont recommend over 6k for two good reasons; 1) too blue and the police may not like it 2) about 6k is too dim to get the full benefit of HIDs... and one personal reason: 3). IMO blue/purple lights look tacky.

My most popular sets are 5k (white light with tint of blue) as they mimic the look of factory fitted cars, they do not have the hint of yellow that 4300ks have and they are still super bright... and they wont color shift beyond 6k.

    hope this helps

Helps alot buddy, i may go for the 5k's this time then, be worth trying something different - and yes your third reason is very true, too blue is too tacky.

    Cheers, Luke
