Last week I pulled away after torrential rain to find water streaming from the little cubby hole above the rear view mirror onto my left foot.
I guess there is a leak from the roofrack fixings. Is this common?
Do I need to get the headling off? Is it easy without causing damage?
Do I need to keep a pair of dry sox in the van for the next time?

I would drop the headliner, easy to do ,just proceed slowlyand use sufficient force!!!!?
There will probably be a lot of damp and condensation so mop it up and dry everything out with hairdryer or heat gun so you can see where the leak is from.
use a hosepipe on outside and pinpoint source of leak.
    Assume nothing until proven
the leak may be the bond around the front screen or the door or roof bar fittings.
seal leak with a polysuphide sealant such as Sikaflex as it is less upset by damp surfaces.
Enjoy! and think of the money you have saved on dry socks
