2003 Polo right side indicator problem

Hi all. New to this forum and any help would be much appreciated. My 2003 Polo has developed a problem when using the right side indicator. Intermittently, the speed of the ticking sound will double and when this happens the indicator lights stop working.

When this happens it may last a few seconds then return to normal but sometimes it can last longer - which makes me nervous about turning right.

I've done all I can think of to fix the problem by replacing the appropriate fuse, but it didn't improve anything.

have you checked the indicator bulbs?

I had the same issue with my 2004 Polo. I traced it to one of the two cables in the headlight that connects to the indicator bulb.

Remove the headlight unit and test the resistance of the cables from the connector to the bulb holder, you may have to move the cables about to get them to go open circuit if this is an interrmitent fault. When you find the offending cable you can repair / replace the cable.
