Hi Guys, I have an A4 Avant one of the earliest of the new models (September 2008). It is below basic in spec, (I'm in Ireland where the government charge vehicle registration tax at 30% on everything including extras even if they are safety devices) The radio is the most basic available but the sound is fine for me but I was disgusted when I discovered there was no 3.5mm jack in the centre console for me to plug in an ipod or whatever. This is something that even small cars don't boast about anymore as its seen as a standard item like wheels and windows.

My question is what are my options? I've read a few posts here and I'm not sure what is available to me. Not sure what if any MMI I have, but you can bet it's the most basic.

Please help as I'm getting to hate my favourite artist as it's the only CD in the car as all the rest are dumped in the attic.

If your looking for a cheap option then this should do the trick Kufatec Aux-In Retrofit.

Alternatively you could go with a full Audi Music Interface Retrofit from your dealer, but that will probably set you back about 10x as much.

You could try something like an XCarlink: http://www.xcarlink.co.uk

I've got one in another car, its pretty good for linking an ipod and you can also have a 3.5mm jack input as well. You can also keep your CD changer if you have one.

Thanks Guys, I have a basic Chorus radio with single front load CD, so the options are limited. I've fitted radios and wired speakers in the past for friends but I'm still a bit wary about messing with the radio in this car as it's the most valuable I've ever owned. Do you think there should be a CD changer connection behing the glovebox or will I have to pull out the head unit to get at it?

    Thanks again.

The 6 CD changer in mine is fitted into the main dash panel between the MMI screen and the heater controls, not the glovebox. I can't think of a reason why the CD changer wouldn't be retrofittable, but you might as well just go for the ipod connection, as you get more music that way anyway.

No SD slot I'm afraid. It's on some of the newer chorus radios but that said I saw a new A4in an Audi showroom last week with the same stereo as mine. I'm very interested in the Xcarlink above, I'm just wary about pulling out the head unit to get at the CD connection. Has anyone any ideas on what needs to be done?

    Thanks

I've never tried messing with the radio on an A4, but can't you use radio removal keys to take it out? Mines got navigation so doesn't have the standard radio controls but the CD changer in the same place looks like it has slots for the keys.

If not, then it sounds like a dashboard-to-pieces job Bear in mind though that you'll have to route the ipod connector into the glovebox or somewhere with the xcarlink, so you may need to take that out as well to make a hole in it.
