I've a Passat 2002 130TDI Sport, the ESP light is permanently lit on the dash. It has done this before and local garage did a code read which said faulty Yaw sensor, unplugging it/checking connections cleared the light.

Now obv before I go for a code read, I'd like to check beneath rear seat where the yaw sensor is and try connections again. Might be a coincidence but the light only came back on after 3 people had been sitting in back recently.

So, any ideas how to remove the rear seat? I've pulled front up ok, but after that, I don't know.

    Cheers.

Pull front up, then pull forward hard. It will seem very stiff, but will come away.
Nothing to see here, move along..

As i remember, there is a bit of a technique to unhooking the rear of the seat that didn't involve a lot of force.
Trouble is wife has the car at work so i can't go and remind myself how i did it.
If you still haven't done it by the time i get the car back at 7-ish let us know.

Well I tried pulling up and forward but no joy, feels like there are other fixings or I'm not pulling hard enough!! Must be a knack to it.

But after all this fiddling the light has gone out again, so looks like it is deffo a dodgy connection/wire under the seat.

You should find that your seat is held on with four clips, two at the front and two of a different design at the sides.
You have already released the front two, and you may have partially released the side two without realising it.
To finally release the sides, give the seat a good shove backwards and it should spring up a little. It should then just lift off.
Ignore what it says in haynes!

Push down and backwards to unhook the side clip, then it's a good hard yank upwards. I had mega difficulty on my Leather seats in my B5.5 but on the B5 it was dead easy. I really do mean mega difficulty! Do one side of the bench at a time.

Thanks all for info, I 've still not removed the seat, cos the esp light went out. But only this week, it came on again briefly when I had 3 people in the back. So it's prob a dodgy connection, obv better than a new yaw sensor at silly money.

Eventually got the bench seat out of my passat by taking out all of the back seats. I then climbed into the boot and because the front of the bench was already lifted I pushed from there from the back of the seat and the seat came out. I have unfortunately broke the two black plastic clips that hold the seats in place. I then disconnected the yaw sensor cable and sprayed WD40 onto male and female of the connectors. Put seats back in, no ESP light for three days now. Will order black plastic clips from VW at a later date. I feel that VW should have put a protective casing around the yaw sensor, as after a few years your seats are bound to sag and cause problems. There were similar problems with the VW beetle where someone heavy sitting in the back could actually cause themetal springs to touch the battery posts. Not good.
