    Hi all,

When I select reverse on my A4 Avant, instead of the usual "beep" I get a prolonged higher pitched one. This doesn't happen all the time, but when it does, the sensors are rendered inop.
Sounds like a faulty sensor, but is there any way of checking without dealer intervention?

    Regards,

    Colin

First try giving the sensors a clean.
Select reverse and listen to the sensors, working ones click

OK, the sensors were pretty clean so I had a listen. It's the O/S centre one that's not working.
What's the chances that it's a wiring fault?
I'm going to phone the supplying dealer to see if it's covered, but my fear is that they strip it down to find a wiring fault that's not covered under warranty.
Anyone any idea of the cost of the part if it's not covered?
Oh, and how common a fault is this?

    Regards,

    Colin

Not common but its not unheard of either.

A VAGCOM scan would point you in the right direction. Wiring is probably OK, more likely to be a sensor failure. Obviously without seeing the car thats only an informed guess!

Depends what warranty you have as to wether or not its covered. They aren't hard to change yourself though if its not covered.

Thanks for that, I'll give the dealer a call.
It's an Apporved Used Audi warranty, so that should cover it I would imagine.

    Regards,

    Colin
