Hi, i am planning to purchase a full milltek exhaust system for my golf 1.6, although i am contemplating just buying a back box?

Does anyone know wether there are significant power/performance gains between the two, or even if performance exhausts even improve performance?

Im not really clued up on the whole exhaust subject so any info would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

I'm not being rude mate, but i would save your money, your not going to notice any changes in performance, if you wanted a nice sounding note then change the back box for a good one, The only way to get better performance is to do stuff to the engine, having it chipped is a good start, you could get that done for around the same price as a full milltek.

That is what i thought and i would be dissapointed with the results. Although i figured that better gas evacuation would improve the performance of my K&N induction kit? I think i will think sensibly and just get a back box instead.

I have also thought about getting the car chipped, how much are we talkin for one and whats the difference between a chip and remap, do they have similair results?

    Thanks.

Thing that a lot of people forget with engines is that, they need back pressure from the exhaust system to work correct. They also need a vacuum from the air box to keep the idle of the engine stable. If you change this stuff you might fine that you decrease power and uses more fuel.
A chip would prob be around £350 or so, Remapping and a chipping I think are the same. But not 100% sure.

Take a look at the tuning section https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum//...play.php?f=141. I'm sure on of the supporting companies will be able to help you.

if you are actulay looking for better power from your induction system then you will need a enclosed air filter. such as a panel filter or the piperx viper. k&n are good on yank engines and big v8's.
