well lads, im wanting to get my car remapped, (passat tdi 130) and just wondering your views on it, have any of you got it done with this model and did you notice much difference in power/fuel economy etc, and did it cause any bad effects?
also would you know which would be the best place in ireland to get it done? i was thinking of superchips in dublin, anyone had any experience with superchips?

oh 1 more thing, ive read up on one of the posts here actually that its advised to throw in a different air filter with the remap for more air, theres 2 types ive seen while looking now, pipercross and K&N, which would be the best?

No, the stock filter is the best, if you want a different one, get one that fits the existing box. The other stuff is for for 1970s mustangs and carburettors.

i dont suffer any real lag, and you only use as much fuel as the right foot predicts - drive it like a loon on full turbo and economy will suffer even without a remap . with a remap getting to 70mph will come sooner so your saving money quicker , once at 70 mph and cruising you are not really boosting anyways so fuel ecomomy is that of an unmapped car .

has anyone had any experience with FR&R tuning? there uk based but have a outlet only 15mins away from me over here, i rang them and they said they offer 3 maps, fast road (mixture of power and fuel economy) power (just a map for the most power fuel economy stays the same) or economy ( extra 10-15 mpg and somtimes a small increase in power but smoother drive) he also said they can put the power wherever i want it low or mid and if its low they'll put it coming in gradually so as not to put too much pressure on the clutch, they cost 295 euro which doesnt seem too bad...

i'd opt for the low turbo boost at low revs option , this way you can pull away without leaving your tyres on the road . the 175 bhp 300 torque map is a bit ott for my liking , i took my car back and they tuned it down slightly , which made it more enjoyable to drive.
an extra 10 to 15 mpg is a little optimistic to be honest . most maps are generic from the vw diesel range ,nothing more.

I have a 2001 130 TDI Passat estate for coming up 12 months, which has had the remap to about 165bhp (it was done about 3 years ago) and it is just fantastic to be honest. The torque is just fantastic, the reliability is 100% and fuel economy is fine; better on a run if I am honest than a standard car. Everything else is stock, air filter etc. Highly recommend.
