Noticed yesterday that when I switched the engine off, the engine shook before coming to a stop. At first I thought I had taken my foot off the clutch while the car was still in gear but the car wasn’t in gear.

Anyway, I have done a few journeys and this is happening every time I turn the car off. It has literally happened overnight and has not been a gradual thing. Anyone had similar? I have searched but couldn’t find anything relating to a shake when turning the engine off.

Also, the nearside rear bearing is starting to sing a little, I understand you have to replace the whole housing is this correct? Is it expensive?
    Any help muchos appreciated.

    Cheers

There is an anti-shudder valve (I think that's what it's called) on the intake by the manifold. When the engine is cut, the valve closes off the engine air supply so the pistons have no air to compress and so they come more smoothly to rest.
I guess your valve is stuck open or failed. It's easy to get at - the main rubber air hose fits onto it. Someone on here can probably tell you an easy way of testing it.
It may be ok to take the hose off with the engine ticking over and watch the valve flap as you switch off. Can't vouch for this being ok due to affecting intake pressures etc. but at tickover, I wouldn't think the engine knows if the hose is off or not as there should be no boost from the turbo.

Bearing noise - make sure its not your tyres. Check out all the posts on whining tyres.

Ah ok, I will give it a try at the weekend.

Good point on the whining noise, I have read about that a few times so will swap some tires around to see if it cures it.

    Thanks
