Quoted is 130. Anyone tried it? My 1.9 Passat B6 would beat that, I can't believe the 140 with another gear would do worse??

Interesting, mine was very comfortable at 110 ( on a track of course) & showing 3,600 on the rev counter with (in theory) another 2,000 revs available that would be something silly like 175mph

I presume there is some sort of limiter, anybody know what it is ?

All depends on the gearing - that extra gear might be too high geared to actually achieve any additional speed- without comparing the Passat 5 speeder to the Golf 6 speeder its anyones guess.

Without a very accuarte GPS you'll never know the true speed anyway - my Golf speedo is out by 5mph at an indicated 70mph, but 90mph its out by 7mph. By the time you hit 130 on the dial you could be out by 12-15mph !!

If its not your brain cells then, the aerodynamics are the limiting factor, coupled to the gearing. You'll never ever hit the rev limiter in top gear, then engine doesn't have enough power to overcome the gearing and drag.

I've a 130 TDI Sport Passat - and I've seen 130 (verified by a GPS)true on an Autobahn, indicated around 135, and I was starting to run out of rev's as I recall. Had it chipped now, and seen slightly more, as other have said the main problem at these speeds is the drag above 110-120mph goes through the roof.

Its a matter of the overhaul gearing. I read its somewhere that its 32 mph per 1000 rpm for mine. At 100 mph on the speedo its doing 2900 rpm. It revs to 5200 rpm so that would be a computed speed of 160 mph. VW only claim 138 mph. I'm not sure what they claim for your models guys. Max power is at 4200 rpm and you don't get a lot after that.

I can't say that I've tried the max speed yet because I haven't found a suitable road that isn't conjested (crap country, to many people with too many cars) but it zips up to 100 mph without even thinking about it.

That's interesting. My Passat 2.0 TDI 140 shows only 2500rpm at an indicated 100mph (97mph on sat nav), although as mine's a BMT maybe that's why (I take it you did mean 6th gear), and according to the VW web site, also gives it a fractionally higher top speed than a non BMT model, although perhaps it's top speed is higher in 5th than 6th. Makes it very relaxed when cruising on a private road though.
