    Following on from another thread and with the ever increasing international following i thought it would be interesting / fun to see how the english language differs from the american

    the list so far stands at
    trunk = boot,
    hood = bonnet,
    trannie = something totally different
    ***** pack = bum bag

    Fender Bender = Car accident
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

    Jasper Carrot did a good routine on this where a woman approached an American cop and said, "Someone's nicked my handbag."

    The cop looked surprised and asked, "You mean they notched it with a knife?"

    He also said that an englishman managed to get the word for a mans crutch area danglies (But spelt correctly) as a registrtation number. The yanks didn't know what it meant!

    Freedom = Control
    Gas = Petrol
    Muffler = Exhaust
    Fall = Autumn
    I thought a fender was a bumper?

    Vest = Waistcoat

    thanksgiving = christmas
    turn signal / flasher = indicator
    flasher = brief indecent exposure
    flash light = torch
    beer = larger
    rims = alloy wheels
    diner = restaurant
    3/5/07 (march 5th 2007) = 3/5/07 (May 3rd 2007) this applies to the 1st 12 days of every month
    refuse = rubbish (refuse in english is to say 'no thanks')
    stairlift = escalator
