Hi All

I don’t really post on here too often so please bear with me. I’ve done a search before posting, but can’t find anything that’s too helpful.

My 2006 Passat (58,000 miles) recently went in to limp mode while pulling on to a dual carriageway. To cut a long story short the fault was diagnosed by a VW garage as being a turbo wastegate that’s seized open and the fix to this being a new turbo at a cost of approximately £1200. The dealership suggested that they could apply for goodwill from VW to pay for the replacement on the basis that the car had been serviced using VW parts. This is where the problem starts as my car was previously a lease car and therefore serviced using Unipart parts by a national network (forget the company name now). Therefore, VW are unwilling to pay towards a replacement.

To be fair to the dealership I’ve already taken the car to have offered to pay 20% towards the repair, which is generous on their part and it’s now there being fixed (I didn’t want to leave it any longer before sorting it out as I didn’t want anything else to go wrong as a result of this issue). Some people may disagree with this but my issue is the fact that the turbo shouldn’t be going on a 4 year old car with 58,000 miles. So my next step was to contact VW customer care pointing this out and that goodwill on the basis of VW only servicing is rigid and not taking each case on it’s merits, i.e. the fact that I’ve had the car serviced at VW since owning and will be having a service, MOT and full timing belt kit within the next month. Their response, didn’t even address the fact of reliability, but simply said that they take the vehicles history in to consideration and they’re under no obligation to pay for repairs out of warranty.

So basically, I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue both with the turbo failing and getting VW to pay out of warranty.

Cheers
