I have a Polo 1.4 8v. 1997 with 120k on the clock. The hydraulic tappets are quite "ticky", particularly when cold. Has anyone tried any oil additives made specifically for this problem ( Wynns, Forte etc). I've also been told that using an engine oil made for diesel engines can clean the gum from around the lifters & quieten things down. Any comments.

    Many thanks

i used in the past the wynns hydraulic lifter stuff on my polo 6n 1998 had around 130k miles and it worked.

the only thing that i can say don't keep it too long in the engine, when you change the oil make sure that you flush your engine
