    As above,

    I took the car to the mechanic and he told me that it is the thrust bearing, that needs replacing not the flywheel.

    How much would that roughly cost?

    The car seems to judder in 1st and 2nd gear, there is no vibration through the steering wheel and the car itself does not cause any kind of a vibration.

    Even if I put my foot down on 3rd gear at 25mph, it will lift straight away!
    What do you guys think? Is the mechanic right?

    carnt see how a thrust bearing can make it judder they normaly just buzz or whine ,plus the fact if your car has a dual mass flywheel you need to change it when you do the clutch or you will live to regret it.......there is many posts on the forum regarding duall mass flywheels

    If it's the DMF you should feel a sort of double bite as the clutch engages. You should also be able to hear a sort of chug-chug sound along with the normal diesel rattle. I know what your mechanic means. Sometimes you get uneven where between the thrust bearing and pressure plate, this can feel odd at the pedal. Seems more common now that the thrust bearing is often mounted on plastic. You won't know any of this until the gearbox is removed.

    It does makes that noise along with the diesel rattle. The guy who I always go to is on holiday for 3 weeks, so I'm abit stranded! I will have to make a few phone calls and see is the actual cause.

    My extinct tell me that I need to replace the DMF and clutch regardless. On the receipt, the owner only replaced the clutch bearings on 2008. The biting point is very accurate, and it doesn't seem to slip. Once I'm above 95mph there is no judder, you can just about feel the dmf slipping when travelling on high speeds.

    The DMF doesn't slip. The clutch does. It's worth getting it sorted soon as the DMF can break or twist and make it hard to get off.

    Sorry I ment, a slight judder as you apply slight pressure to the accelerator the judder/ vibration kicks in.

    I'm going to take the car to my local garage tomorrow and, see what he can do?

    Update:

    The car has gone to the mechanic, and he is replacing the DMF and clutch kit at this very moment, including the release bearing.

    How long do these DMF last, once it has been replaced with a new one?

    The DMF seems to last about 100k miles on the B6. It does depend on driver a bit. I am convinced that having to put your foot on the clutch to start, actually shortens their life span. No doubt I am wrong.

    Thats good! I usually put my foot down when I'm in the mood All thanks to the previous owner, he must of put his foot on the clutch all day long!
