Hi all, my wife recently acquired a Mk 3 Golf estate, and has been using it for a few weeks now. After returning from holiday, the battery was flat as a pancake. The problem is, the immobiliser will not turn itself off. The previous owner reckons it was factory fitted (think the car is a '97 model) and it has two plips on the unit, and a reference number of MPT 1340 on the back, and 'volkswagen' on the front. I have fitted a new battery to the plipper, but nothing changes. It is not an immobiliser with a 'key' part, just a rectangular unit. *Just found out it is a Scorpion 918 model*

There is a push switch under the bonnet that shuts when you close the bonnet, and a siren. Inside the car there are three sensors on the dash, and a red light on the dash panel directly below the three heater controls, which is constantly on.

Regardless of what I do, the hazards keep flashing, and the unit resets itself every minute or so.

Any ideas on how to turn it off? The previous owner never used it, and had to dig out the plipper for me.

    All help gratefully received.

    Regards

    John

Addendum - Ok, so after finally getting into the glovebox, as the handle had broken, i removed it and the lower parcel shelf. There was a flat unit, which I presume is the Scorpion unit. This has 3 connector blocks
    1 with about 10 connectors
    1 with about 7 connectors
    1 with a small 4 pin connector.

I removed the 7 pin connector, and the immobiliser is now no more, and the engine starts fine :-).

Now, what I need to find out is what the small 4 block connector is for, and whether there are any wires on the removed connector that should be left in!

All lights, hazards, horn and radio work with this block out, so not really sure whether there is anything important on it.

Hi, You have a scorpion Imobiliser/alarm fitted, unfortunately when the battery goes flat the system memmory is lost & the equipment needed to reset it is obsolete, if you have a key fob with 2 buttons on it i can tell you how to dissable the system, check that you have a scorpion system & get back to me

Hi Kevin, thanks for the reply. I gave up in the end, removed the glovebox and took out the connector block from the wiring. At least it is quiet now!

    Cheers

You needed to join the yellow/red stripe & purple/black stripe wire together.
That will get the engine started
