If I read your other post correctly you let the old oil drain while the car was on a stand. So I reckon that there may be some old oil left in the engine, so that could be why there is too much in.

I use a Pela extractor through the dipstick, it is easy because you don't have to grovel underneath the car taking off surrounds and sump plugs. AND it gets all the oil out, whatever anyone tells you!

I agree. Sucked 4 litres out. Put 4 litres in. Oil level was just under the large ball.

Yeah I may have still had some, although the car was leaning back so it wont be much residual.

Those pumps are ok, but they have one flaw, they dont get the sludge out, I grant you it is easier than the floor dance though.

If you give the car a good run and it has had the correct oil, there shouldn't be any sludge. I've never had any sludge in my cars since I had a D reg petrol Escort.

cuz the dipstick is black and the oil is black its so hard to tell why couldnt they have made it another colour silly people.
Having had the car (170) for over 3yrs, only today when using a magnifying glass did I notice it has the words min & max stamped on it! Why was I using a magnifying glass? Not because of poor eyesight ..I can see where the oil is on the stick BUT I find that even letting the car stand overnight I cant withdraw the thing without some oil getting smeared over the vital area. eg I find the top ball has oil on it but just below there is a dry patch meaning the oil isnt so high as I first think. Folded tissue doesnt help. So in the end I decide the oil level is at the bottom of the lowest dry patch Never thought I would be writing about a dipstick, till now I just used them and thought nothing more. (The 08 golf dipstick I used yesterday, on the golf, was much better)

I have used Yellow etching primer to paint the section between the two balls on my stick. not perfect but it does help. i keep the level just below the top ball. not had any problems in almost 30k miles...
