I have just had a Sony DAB head unit fitted to my A4 1.9 tdi 2003 Avant.
It works very well and I am relieved to be rid of the rubbishy FM crackles, however my audio fitter tells me that he cannot arrange the power supply so that the unit remains powered until the key is removed from the ignition.
I have become used to that feature and miss it considerably.
Does anyone know how that can be restored?
Thanks for any help with this.

Hi, do you mean that you would like your Sony head unit to remain on when the keys are out of the ignition?

If you want it powered until the key is removed (like the OEM stereo does) then you need to add an adapter (CAN bus emulator)

    Thanks both for those replies.
Isaac, you are right to understand that I want the unit to remain on after the engine has stopped but NOT after the key is removed from the ignition.
Where can I get a canbus emulator? Is it a straightforward fit? Do you have one?
I have VCDS, if that is necessary for the set up.

    Dear Niall

If you would like the new unit to be powered in the same way as the OEM then yes you will require a CAN interface, to be honest it would be best if you were to source and have this item fitted locally, as you had the head unit fitted professionally it would be best to have the CAN interface fitted the same way. If you speak to a local car audio dealer there are plenty of CAN interfaces on the market.

Thanks for that, however, I did ask my local audio tech. who fitted the H/U
if he could achieve the power behaviour of the oem and he was not able to offer a solution.
Do you think that you could supply the correct interface?
    The H/U is a Sony CDX-DAB6650.
I assume that this is a common problem to which many here would
    welcome a solution.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Niall

We would be able to supply a CAN interface, but to be honest as I said you would better sourcing it locally as you would need to have it installed anyway and I would imagine it would be much cheaper for you to get a supply and fit option at a local car audio dealer, they may have a certain brand that they are familiar with or prefer using.
