I'm looking for some help/advice on an issue with my 2004 A4 with 32k miles on the clock.

It suddenly developed cloudy chrome trim. The trim along the bottom of the windows and the chrome that sweeps around the top of the car over the door seals, etc. has now started to dull and look really bad. I've washed the car many times before and at the weekend washed the car as normal and suddenly this happened.

I spoke to an Audi approved bodyshop and they said that it was a warrenty issue since the chrome had started to oxidise i.e. rust and told me to book it into an Audi service center.

The service center said that chrome trim is mechanical and is not covered by the 12 year corrosion warrenty but they are happy to charge £1000 to change the trim including labour.

Can anyone give any advice on this issue?

I think Audi are having a laugh if they claim a chrome trim is "mechanical". I would take it to another Audi dealer for a second opinion and if they also fob you off, raise it with Audi UK.

Well, contacted another dealer and they said that trim is not covered by the 12 year anti corrosion warranty and want £1000 to supply and fit.

Also contacted Audi Uk and they said no dice either and no good will, they will contact dealer and see if dealer can provide any discount.

So my 6 year old car now has chrome trim worse than the 12 year vx omega I replaced it with.... somewhere there is something funny about this, just can't find it yet.

If you take a look at the Audi warranty here, it doesn't mention anything about terim not being covered. I'd take that to the dealer and bat them on the head with it if they try to wriggle out of fixing the trim.

If you have an full Audi dealer service history, there is a good chance you'll get some good will out of this.

Well that sucks because I had a friend with a 54 plate passat and his Chrome was changed under warranty by VW. So I guess Audi owners are fare game to pay for everything because we are made of money. Think I'll buy another make after this bull****. I'm taking it to a dealership to see what they say, going to argue tooth and nail for this. I didn't use anything harsh only Audi stuff to wash my car.

I tried for the trim along bottom of Boot, that bubbles up thru time, and was also told not covered by Warranty after (i think) 1 year. This was b4 its 3 yr warranty expired.
