I am looking to adjust the fuel level guage on the dash of a beetle to show that it is empty when there is still some fuel in the tank.

I ask this as my better half has on a few occassions, let the car run dry..

I expect that there could be some value in VAGCOM that I can offset to complete this task.

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers...

Not sure you can adjust the gauge.
If she runs the car out of fuel with an accurate gauge will changing the gauge make any difference.

I think there is a tank sender compensation value but I have never used it.

There was some discussion here about a 2010 Jetta, however the basic theory applies to nearly all clusters:
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...1#post66099017

Later in that thread, Quoting myself:

The Old School fuel gauge reading adaptation procedure (MK4/B5 style) was to remove all fuel from the tank. Add 7 to 9 Liters of fuel to the tank, depending on the "Reserve" level as per the repair and owner's manual. Set the adaptation of the fuel gauge within the middle of the Red graduations. After the fuel gauge was calibrated, there was a MFI procedure which had an adjustment range of 85% - 115% and I do not remember which way was +/-.

So the '02 Beetle should have an adaptation value of 128 in channel 30 and I would alter that in very small increments.

    Spot on Dana!!

A little info bubble popped up beside the new value input block.

It says "Parallel shift of tank characteristic by +-32 ohm, value range 96-160"

It would only allow me to enter a value between 120-136.

At 128 the needle was just on the top of the red section.

120 it was half way between the red

136 it was just up to the first increment dot.

120-136 range equal to 1/8 of full guage.

Therefore new value set to 120, 1/16 less.

    Kite:

"If she runs the car out of fuel with an accurate gauge will changing the gauge make any difference"

Fair point. But generally now at this stage, she just fills up at the bottom of the red.

What I am trying to avoid is her dragging crap up from the tank as It will be me who has to replace the fuel filter or whatever else damage is done

    Again guys, many thanks!!!!
